What’s more common than coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death in America?

Mental health conditions, which impact an estimated 53 million adults in America (National Institute on Mental Health, Mental Illness), compared to the 18 million adults living with heart disease (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Heart Disease Facts).

Yet, while many people know the risk factors for developing heart disease and could recognize the signs of a heart attack, not as many know the risk factors or symptoms of mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder.

Mental Health 101 will provide you with simple, easy to understand information about mental health. What mental health is, how to take better care of your mental health, and resources available to you if you need some additional help.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so there’s no better time than now to learn more about an aspect of your overall health that is often ignored and forgotten.

Jessica Ryan, LCSW joined MHANI in 2018 bringing 12 years of experience having served organizations such as Lifeline Youth and Family Services and Children’s Autism Center. Jessica is also a certified trainer in QPR suicide prevention and Youth Mental Health First Aid.
