What is Mental Health First Aid?

Youth Mental Health First Aid (Y-MHFA) is an evidence-based training course designed to teach adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in adolescents.

Topics include: common signs and symptoms of mental illnesses common to youth, signs and symptoms of substance use, how to interact with a youth in crisis, and how to connect the youth with help.

Who should take this Mental Heath First Aid course?

The course is designed for individuals who regularly interact with young people: parents, school personnel, coaches, youth group leaders, first responders, and friends & family of adolescents with mental health challenges or addiction.

**QPR or safeTALK training prior to Y-MHFA is strongly recommended**
