Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana Executive Director Lisa Smith has resigned her position effective May 31, 2021.

Holding the position since 2011, Lisa oversaw a merger between MHANI and Cedars Hope and led the organization through a strong period of growth. MHANI’s Board of Directors thanks her for her service to the mission and wishes her well. You can read Lisa’s outgoing statement here.

To ensure a smooth transition in leadership, the MHANI Board of Directors has engaged long-time local nonprofit consultant Joan Baumgartner Brown to serve as interim director.

With more than 40 years of social profit experience, as CEO, Chief Development Officer, trustee, and other nonprofit positions, Joan brings diverse perspectives to her interim work, consulting and coaching. Her current consulting practice centers around helping organizations thrive during transitions, both planned and unplanned.

In the past, Joan has filled leadership positions with a number of area organizations including the Parkview Foundations, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Northeast Indiana Public Radio. Internationally, her recent work has included interim positions with Mayan Families in Guatemala, and with Cristosal, a leading human rights organization based in El Salvador.

Joan will oversee daily operations at MHANI and will aid in the search for a permanent Executive Director.

Alongside Joan and her extensive expertise in the field, MHANI Board of Directors and staff members will maintain the organization’s momentum and impact while the search for an Executive Director is underway.
