Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana hosted Dr. Sherene McHenry at Mental Wellness Works on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Over 120 people representing 36 companies joined us at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation.

Long an advocate for mental health and well-being, Sherene got her first taste of counseling as a client. The resulting life transformation greatly influenced her career decisions. Desiring to have the greatest impact possible, Sherene earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education. While she enjoyed counseling youth, couples and families, her ultimate dream was to become a professor. She invested almost two decades training master’s level counseling students before leaving academia to impact an even larger audience as a professional speaker and author.

At Mental Wellness Works, Dr. McHenry focused on how leaders and managers can better support the mental health of their employees. Our workplaces have a significant impact on our mental health, and often times we spend more time with our coworkers than our families. That makes it even more important for employers to acknowledge the mental health of their employees.

Dr. McHenry walked attendees through observable changes they may notice in an employee who is struggling, offered practical tips and phrases to use to start a conversation, and provided plenty of time to practice.

It is our hope that attendees walked away with the tools they need to better support their colleagues in the workplace. The companies in attendance are doing important work, and the people making the work happen are just as important.
