While adult education about mental health is important, an important step in reducing stigma is teaching children about mental health and helping them gain an understanding of mental illness, disabilities, and substance abuse.

The Kids on the Block™ program use educational puppet presentations to teach third grade students in the area about a variety of topics. The puppet performances are intended to help children learn to respect those with a physical or developmental disability. In addition, the skits help children learn to cope with their feelings and how to handle challenging situations in their daily lives (including bullying, peer pressure, self-esteem, etc.).

Topics include:

  • physical disabilities
  • developmental disabilities
  • emotional problems
  • drug and alcohol abuse
  • family challenges
