Dear Friends,

Gratitude has been on my mind lately. It must be that time of the year! Mostly, I am thankful for you and your support of Mental Health America throughout 2017. We could not continue without your support and the support of other community members like you. Because of you, we can serve youth, families, and individuals like Tammi.

At our August event, Tammi told her story about receiving guardianship and housing services from Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana (MHANI). For the past several years, Tammi has grown into an independent woman who volunteers at Parkview, attends church services, participates in a performing arts program, and lives with other women like her at Cedars Hope. Tammi has grown to be a dynamic, happy, and healthy person living with mental and intellectual disabilities.

As we plan for 2018, we are proud of the impact we have made in 2017 that keeps us pushing forward:

  • 2,200 third grade students saw Kids on the Block presentations to help them better understand other students with disabilities and reduce bullying in school
  • 750 people received advocacy, support, and mentoring for their mental health challenges
  • 23 women lived independently and achieved personal goals at Cedars Hope
  • 82 seniors and adults with intellectual and development disabilities had a professional guardian and volunteer advocating for their safety and wellbeing

These services happen because of a loving and committed community that is giving others a chance to live a happy and healthy life.

As 2018 approaches, I ask that you consider a gift to help us continue providing services for those living with mental illness, substance use, and disabilities. Your support is crucial to our clients like Tammi who need a chance to change their lives. You can donate online here.

I wish you and your special ones love and serenity throughout the coming holiday season.

Lisa Smith, Executive Director
