Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): Building Self-Healing Communities

Adverse childhood experiences are traumatic events that occur in childhood. Among 25 states, 61 percent of adults reported to have experienced at lest one type of ACE. ACEs can negatively impact health and well-being throughout adulthood.

Training Objectives:

1. Understand the science of ACEs

2. Apply that science to youth behaviors

3. Learn skills to calm a traumatized brain

4. Discuss becoming a more trauma-informed community

About the Speaker

Joelle joined Great KIDS in January of 2018. She holds a BS in Communications from Ball State University. Joelle is an experienced trainer and motivational speaker who has over 20 years of experience in the field of professional training & development. Joelle completed the “Essentials of Asset Building” from Search Institute & the ACE Interface Master Trainer Curriculum’s in 2019. In her role at Great KIDS, she primarily coordinates the Leader Impact Academy. The purpose of the Academy is to empower leaders from all professional sectors to advance the well-being of Allen County’s children and families. In addition, Joelle offers training on the 40 Developmental Assets, ACEs, as well as Say Yes to No. Prior to coming to Great KIDS, Joelle worked in the financial industry. She also serves as a presenter for The Respect Team.
