Parkview Community Health Improvement Program Has Awarded $35,000 to MHANI for Peer Support

Fort Wayne, IN – March 14, 2018Mental Health America of Northeast Indiana (MHANI) has been awarded a $35,000 grant by the Parkview Community Health Improvement Program for the second year running.

This grant from Parkview Community Health Improvement will provide funding for MHANI’s peer support program. Peer support connects individuals with mental health conditions or substance use disorders to peers in recovery who understand what the person is going through. MHANI offers support groups, educational classes, and one-on-one mentoring through the peer support program.

“We are excited to partner with Parkview again this year as we provide much-needed, low cost peer support services to Northeast Indiana,” Lisa Smith, Executive Director, said. “Peer support is a successful, evidence-based practice that can make a real difference for individuals in our community who need that one-to-one mentoring and support.”

Parkview’s Community Health Improvement Program helps Parkview Health accomplish its mission of improving the health of the communities they serve. The program was established in 1998.

For over 60 years, MHANI has provided essential resources, advocacy, and education to professionals, individuals, and families who are affected by mental illness. Through these services, they want to ensure that all individuals facing mental health challenges are supported and gain access to the resources they need.
